According to the survey, only 29% of respondents approve of the president’s performance.
A recent survey conducted by the Hernán Echavarría Olózaga Institute of Political Science (ICP) in conjunction with YanHaas revealed a growing distrust in the government of President Gustavo Petro. The poll, conducted between August 16 and 24, 2024, shows that 72% of Colombians trust the president less than they did two years ago. This result reflects a marked deterioration in the perception of the government, especially in cities such as Medellín (83%) and Bogotá (74%).
The survey, which is part of the Queremos platform, which documents citizen opinions on key issues, also reveals that only 29% of respondents approve of President Petro’s management, a percentage similar to that recorded in July 2024 (30%). In contrast, disapproval reaches 49%. The majority of respondents, 67%, expressed their preference for an agenda of stability rather than constant change, with Bucaramanga leading this sentiment (71%).
Lack of experience
Among the reasons given for the government’s management problems, 48% of respondents attribute the failure to the lack of administrative experience of officials, while 44% point to the lack of consensus and coordination with other sectors as the main cause. Regarding the priorities that Petro should address in the remaining two years of his mandate, 91% consider that fighting corruption should be the main objective, followed by restoring public order and security (88%), and strengthening the health system by allowing the participation of the private sector (76%).
The survey also showed that 69% of Colombians believe the country is ready to elect a woman as president. As for the ideal profile for the presidency, 75% of respondents believe that someone with political experience should be elected, 59% support a businessman, and 57% consider a young man with political experience as a viable option.

Economic situation
The perception of the economic situation and employment in the country has also deteriorated. Only 30% of respondents consider the economic situation of their household to be good or very good, a figure that has decreased from 34% in July. Likewise, 27% evaluate the economic situation of companies positively, and only 11% view the state of employment in Colombia positively.
As for the health system, 40% of respondents believe it is in crisis, and another 40% think it has worsened. Only 2% consider the system to be excellent.
Finally, confidence in former presidents is also at low levels. Álvaro Uribe leads the list with 36% confidence, followed by Iván Duque with 24% and Juan Manuel Santos with 21%. However, in cities such as Medellín and Barranquilla, former presidents have greater support. For example, Uribe has 53% confidence in Medellín, while in Barranquilla Duque has 43%. Young people aged 18 to 24 are those who trust former presidents the least, with figures between 9% and 24%.
