In 2022 when IPL media assets were sold, it was said that 2025 and 2026 IPL will have a total of 84 matches. But to reduce the workload of the players, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to reduce it to 74. Today Friday (September 27), BCCI Secretary Jai Shah said, mainly considering the workload of the players, they are not able to keep their promises.

74 matches in 2025 IPL sport

In this regard, Shah said, ‘We actually cannot hold 84 matches in 2025 IPL. As we also have to think about the workload of the players. That is why we are not increasing the match. Although 84 matches were part of the contract. However, BCCI’s decision is final whether there will be 84 or 74 matches.

In 2022, BCCI sold IPL media assets for five years for Rs 48,390.5 crore. Through which IPL became the most expensive franchise league in the world. Originally, 84 matches were arranged keeping in mind the benefits of those who bought the broadcasting rights. In that case they would get more advertising opportunities. And BCCI would also get a chance to earn a little more. But experts think that BCCI has taken the right decision considering the players.
