75% of applicants are of Spanish nationality

Three out of four applicants for sheltered housing in Catalonia as a whole have Spanish nationalitywhile only one 24% are non-EU foreigners (ie from outside the European Union). There is also 360 requests from Community foreignerswhich barely come to represent one 1%.

According to the Government’s data, corresponding to the month of September 2022, among the family units that are registered in any of the registers there is a 7.8% who are large families (that is, with three or more children) i 6.8% are single-parent families (that is, with a parental figure and one or more descendants).

Most of the requests, however, are fromfamily units formed by a single person (44%). There are also 23% of requests from families made up of two people, 14% with three people, 10% with four people, 6% with five people, 2% are families of six members and 1 % have seven or more members.

Between 35 and 65 years

By age groups, the the most numerous is between 35 and 65 years oldwhich represent almost the 62% of the requests that the Generalitat has taken into account. There are also about 27% that correspond to young people under 35 years of age, while only 11.5% come from people who are already over 65 years of age. By gender, women (56%) are more numerous than men (44%).

The vast majority of requests (87%) have been for access to a rent with purchase option


Other data that are available are those that refer to the type of housing that has been requested. In these cases, applicants have the right to request more than one typology, so that the sum of the percentages ends up being greater than 100. In a 36% of cases, the demands are to be able to own a home, and in 44% it has been for a rental. The vast majority of people, however (up to one 87%) has requested a rent with option to purchase. On the other hand, only 1% of requests referred to adapted housing.

Aid for rehabilitations

In the other hand, The Generalitat also recently opened one subsidy line for a maximum value of 4,000 euros so that people over 65 years old they can renovate their home and thus be more independent. The money can be used to improve accessibility or adapt the facilities to regulations, among others.
