The swabs and the scenario
I total swabs (molecular and antigenic) were 490.883, or 38,999 less than yesterday when it was 529,882. The positivity rate rises to 15.5% (the approximation of 15.53%); yesterday it was 15.1%.
Less infections in 24 hours than yesterday. The trend of the swing curve remains uphill, as shown by the comparison with last Friday (11 March), when they were recorded +53,127 almost with a rate of 12.5%: today, in fact, there are more new infections than that day, with a higher percentage (15.5% against 12.5%). Lazio has the highest number of newly infected (+9.004 cases). There are three regions above 8 thousand: Lombardy (+8.555 cases), Puglia (+8.521) and Campania (+8.409).
According to the monitoring of the Higher Institute of Health
, the weekly incidence increases (11-17 March) which reaches 725 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants (it was 510 per 100 thousand in the previous report) and the Rt index on symptoms rises to 0.94 (it was 0.83) . Four Regions / Autonomous Provinces are classified at high risk due to multiple resilience alerts: these are Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Lombardy and Veneto. The Omicron variant present in 99.9% of cases on the national territory, with the novelty that the Omicron 2 sub-variant is growing and was found in 44.1% of Omicron infections (the latest data on February 18 gave it to 3%) .
The victims
The death toll remains high: there are 165 in the bulletin against 128 yesterday. In the saddest data, several previous deaths were counted, as the notes indicate. Only the Valle d’Aosta communicates zero bereavement, while the highest number of deaths in Lombardy (26).
The health system
the variation in hospital stays in each area is small, indicating a situation of substantial stability. The beds occupied in ordinary Covid wards I’m +6 (yesterday -13), for a total of 8,403 hospitalized. The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region announces that the total of positive cases was reduced by 2 following 1 negative molecular test after positive antigen test and following 1 positive test removed after review of the case. It should be noted that all patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV2 hospitalized for both Covid-19 and other pathologies are counted in the data relating to hospitalized patients in the Intensive Care Unit and Medical Area.
