These projects presented innovative solutions in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Thus, the first prize was awarded to the project “قطرة – DMP AUI 2” (drop) of Al Akhawayn University (AUI) which aims to respond to the challenges of water shortage and inefficient practices in Moroccan households.

The project team has developed a solution in the form of a mobile water monitoring and conservation application that will enable Moroccan citizens to track, manage and conserve their water consumption efficiently.

The second prize went to the “BusTrackr” project from the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University (USMBA) in Fez. This project offers a service to track buses in the city of Fez and provide users with real-time positioning, as well as online payment of bus passes, in addition to many other features.

As for the 3rd prize, it was awarded to the “NadifTech” project of the Ecole normale supérieure de l’enseignement technique (ENSET) which focuses on waste management, starting with raising awareness among communities and connecting them to smart bins via a mobile application.

The jury of this edition also had a crush on the Suntrix project, a state-of-the-art solar panel maintenance system. It involves drones equipped with infrared cameras and AI that detect hot spots and dust and trigger specialized robots to clean and cool the panels.

With real-time tracking via this mobile app and comprehensive resources on its website, Suntrix offers a sustainable solution to improve energy efficiency and extend the life of solar panels.

In a statement to the press, the United States Ambassador to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, welcomed the enormous impact of this program and the extraordinary work accomplished by “inspiring” and passionate girls.

And to note that the work of the girls benefiting from this program focused on real-world challenges including climate change, which is the most important problem of the present time.

“What I see here gives me hope for the future, because this is one of the most difficult problems facing humanity,” said the American diplomat, stressing the importance of everyone’s involvement in addressing this problem and the need to take advantage of the potential of local talent.

For his part, the president of the Anoual Association, Ilyass Benarouia, indicated in a statement to MAP that the program, launched in 2016, aims to develop the skills of young girls in STEM, social innovation and leadership.

Mr. Benarouia stressed that “this year, the program brought together 600 high school girls and 300 students who worked throughout the year on issues related to their cities, including waste and transport management, noting that these young people developed technological solutions that aim to resolve these issues in an innovative way.

Organized on July 30 and 31 by the Anoual Association in collaboration with the United States Embassy in Morocco, this edition brought together 180 mentors from more than 60 Moroccan cities for inspiring sessions and a STEM workshop led by experts.

This edition was thus an opportunity to celebrate an important step in the empowerment of young girls aged 15 to 18 in STEM fields.

The DigiGirlz mentoring program was organized and implemented by the Anoual Association, an association, founded in 2005 by young visionary activists, aiming to empower young leaders through social innovation and entrepreneurship.

To date, more than 3,000 girls from 12 regions of Morocco have participated in the DigiGirlz mentoring program, enabling the creation and development of more than 400 projects that have a positive impact on communities nationwide.
