Halve deaths and injuries caused by road accidents by 2030. This is the goal set by the United Nations in its “Global Plan for the Decade for Road Safety 2021-2030“.

Among the actions proposed to achieve the necessary awareness in society, the World Health Organization (WHO) periodically organizes world weeks on Road Safety. The seventh of them takes place between May 15 and 21 and is focused on promoting sustainable transport.

Under the slogan “Rethinking mobility” this new action seeks to raise awareness among governments and society of the need to reconsider transport so that it conforms to the principles of safety and sustainability.

The campaign advocates promoting active mobility and promoting walking, the use of bicycles and the generalization of public transport. The premise is that all this will result in a healthier society, more sustainable cities and more equitable societies.

Among the key messages of this 7th Road Safety Week there is considering security as the center of any effort to reorder mobility. To this end, it is proposed that road networks should be designed taking into account the most vulnerable users, and that a commitment be made to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable public transport.
