The anti-discrimination student movement has deposited 8 crore taka from the relief collected at the TSC of Dhaka University with the help of the flood victims to the chief adviser’s relief and welfare fund.
On Wednesday (October 2), the coordinators handed over a check of Tk 8 crore to Farooq E Azam, advisor to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at the secretariat.
At the check handing over ceremony, the adviser said, ‘Today the coordinators of anti-discrimination student movement have come to pay the collected relief money. It is not the relief collected by them, it is the life of Bangladesh. Here children, working people, housewives – huge people of the country have donated to this fund as much as they can. They have come to pay the collected money today.’
Anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Lutfar Rahman said, ‘I was a representative in the relief collection program at TSC, and there are other representatives here with me. We have published the full audit report of the relief activities we have done in TSC yesterday. After all the income and expenses, there is now Tk 9 crore 91 lakh 51 thousand 213 in two bank accounts in the name of anti-discrimination student movement. From there, we will hand over eight crore rupees to the chief adviser’s relief fund to the adviser.’
Regarding why they are giving this money, the coordinator said, ‘A National Flood Rehabilitation Committee has already been formed from the Ministry of Relief. A committee has also been formed with student representatives in the flood affected districts. We have representatives there too. We want our money to reach the rehabilitation of common people.’
“We will monitor as a watchdog. I am handing over 8 crore taka from that thinking’ said Lutfar Rahman.
Stating that the remaining 1 crore 91 lakh rupees will be spent on flood victims in North Bengal, he said, ‘Last day, five teams of us went there to conduct relief operations.’
The coordinator also said, ‘The anti-discrimination student movement conducted relief collection activities at TSC from August 22 to September 4. 11 crore 69 lakh 84 thousand 420 taka came in cash there. So far we have spent one crore 78 lakh 33 thousand 207 taka. With this money, we bought relief, car rental. In this case, 200 trucks have been used. About two lakh relief packets have gone to us.’
Disaster Management and Relief Adviser said, ‘From August 27 till today, I have received 83 crore 43 lakh 28 thousand 8 taka 53 paisa from various organizations for the relief fund of the chief adviser. A total of 203 checks have been accepted by us.’
