It was already known that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon will resign at today’s board meeting. Election of new board president was needed very quickly to advance cricket in the country. That process has also been completed today.
Two nominated directors of National Sports Council Farooq Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin Fahim attended the board meeting. They have been replaced by Jalal Yunus and Ahmed Sazzadul Alam. Jalal Yunus resigned but the National Sports Council released Ahmed Sazzadul Alam.
With the addition of two new board directors, 8 directors completed the quorum. 8 directors joined the BCB meeting today – Mahbub Anam, Akram Khan, Khaled Mahmud Sujan, Kazi Inam Ahmed, Saiful Alam Swapan, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Salauddin Chowdhury and Fahim Sinha. These 8 directors continue on the board. Time will tell what the future holds for the rest.
However, if the remaining directors are absent in three consecutive board meetings, the board president has the authority to remove them according to the constitution by giving three days’ notice. Their future will be determined in that process.
Absent today were Najmul Hasan Papon, Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Ismail Haider Mallick, Obed Nizam, Tanveer Ahmed Titu, AJM Nashir Uddin, Gazi Golam Mortza, Sheikh Sohail, Advocate Anwarul Islam, Najeeb Ahmed, Enayet Hossain Siraj, Manjur Quader and Manjurul Alam. .
The next BCB board meeting is scheduled to be held next week.
