8 killed in fresh spell of heavy rains in Balochistan- Dinamani

In the last 24 hours in Pakistan, at least 8 people, including a child, have died due to heavy rains in some districts including Balochistan.

Due to continuous heavy rains in Pakistan for the past few days, the normal life of the people has been greatly affected. 200 people have died in Balochistan so far. More than 18,000 houses have been damaged due to floods in the province, with borewells, solar panels and other communications severely damaged by the rains, a provincial official said.

District Deputy Commissioner Munir Ahmed Kakar said,

In the last 24 hours, three people were killed when the walls of two houses collapsed in Gili Galli area, on the outskirts of Quetta, Balochistan. Another person died due to heavy rain in Chaman district. Four people were killed in flash floods in Gila Abdullah district on Friday night. Many more have disappeared.

Meanwhile, traffic between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan was halted for the second time this month on Friday as a temporary steel bridge erected on the Karakoram Highway in Upper Kohistan’s Ichar Nullah area was swept away by floods.

Especially Balochistan has received unusually heavy rains during monsoon this year. Thousands of people have lost their homes due to recent floods in the province.

Following this, the Meteorological Department on Friday has warned that many parts of Sindh will experience heavy to very heavy rains with thunderstorms for the next two days. Some parts of Pakistan are likely to witness thundershowers and gusty winds till August 14.

Further, rains are likely to intensify in north-eastern and southern districts of Balochistan, and flash floods in Dhatu, Jamshoro and Kambar Shahdadkot districts and lower reaches, the Meteorological Department has predicted.
