New Delhi: Representatives of 8 parties did not participate in the presidential election when Yashwant Sinha, the common candidate of the opposition, filed the petition.

Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha is the opposition’s common candidate in the presidential election. Yashwant Sinha filed the petition the day before yesterday. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party leader Sarabjit Singh, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh, National Convention party leader Farooq Abdullah and DMK leader A. Razza were among those present.

However, representatives of Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj, Azaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, People’s Democratic Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Siromani Akali Dal, Biju Janata Dal, YSR Congress and eight other opposition parties did not attend Yashwant Sinha’s nomination. Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal leader Naveen Patnaik has said that Mayawati will support BJP alliance candidate Draupadi Murmu as the opposition has not consulted with her and that she supports Murmu as she is from their state.

These 8 parties do not support Yashwant Sinha. In particular, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the ruling party in Sinha’s home state of Jharkhand, is a pro-tribal party. Murmu, who has served as the Governor of Jharkhand, is also a tribal. So, it seems that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha will support Murmu. Yashwant Sinha, who was already in the BJP, left the party and joined the Aam Aadmi Party for some time. Later, he withdrew from there as well. It is said that Aam Aadmi Party does not want to support Yashwant Sinha. This is seen as a setback for Yashwant Sinha.
