The Attorney General’s Office ordered the arrest of 8 people who are allegedly involved in defrauding and extorting several victims through social networks, promising to release their relatives who are deprived of their liberty.
“The FGR ordered the arrest of eight people accused of defrauding and extorting several victims who, through a social network group, were promised the release of their relatives who were deprived of their liberty,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.
According to information provided by the FGR, the leader of this structure is Mateo Sebastián Pinto Rodríguez, a Salvadoran who is in Colombia.
“Pinto contacted the victims and asked them for between $2,000 and $25,000 dollars to free their detained relatives. The money was deposited in different bank accounts and later sent to Colombia,” the FGR said.
Several of the arrests occurred during the early hours of the morning in different raids in Zacamil, Mejicanos, San Salvador, Cuscatancingo, San Martin and La Libertad.
