Houston Man Found Safe After 8-Year Disappearance
HOUSTON, Texas – Rudy Farias, now 25 years old, has been found safe and is recovering in a hospital after being missing for eight long years, according to authorities. Farias’ mother spoke to ABC13 on Sunday night, sharing pictures of her son in a hospital bed and revealing the harrowing details of his discovery.
Farias was found by someone who called 911 after spotting him unresponsive outside a church in northwest Houston. The concerned individual noticed cuts and bruises all over Farias’ body, as well as blood in his hair, leading to suspicions of severe abuse and beating.
The disappearance of Farias dates back to March 6, 2015, when he was only 17 years old. At that time, he was walking his two dogs near Tidwell and Park Drive. Although his dogs were later recovered, Farias remained missing, prompting his family to file a report.
In 2015, authorities revealed that Farias had been diagnosed with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety. Texas EquuSearch, a nonprofit search and rescue organization, appealed to the public for assistance in finding him, highlighting his possible disorientation and failure to take his medication.
The search for Farias was temporarily suspended on March 10, 2015, as authorities sought additional information. However, just two days later, the search resumed, ultimately ending on March 13, 2015, with officials expressing gratitude for the dedication of the searchers who combed through rain-soaked fields.
On Sunday, July 2, 2023, authorities made the shocking announcement that Farias had been located and was safe. However, Farias’ mother disclosed that her son’s ordeal had left him traumatized, as he only speaks a few words and enters a fetal position when they try to communicate with him. She acknowledged that the road to healing would be long but expressed gratitude that her son was found alive.
