Riobamba will be the venue for the VII National Adapted Sports Games ‘Chimborazo 2023’, whose sports events will take place between October 18 and 25 with the participation of 800 athletes representing 21 provinces. 800 athletes in competition.

Organization. Fabián Falconí, controller of the Chimborazo Sports Federation, reported that it is a special issue because, “it is the first time that the Adapted Sports Games are going to take place in Riobamba and Chimborazo, and adapted sports have many special requirements, starting with the sports venues, and the type of competitions, we are adapting our sports venues to be able to provide facilities for this type of sports, we are also adapting the infrastructure part, in the ‘El Sabún’ complex, in the ‘Teodoro Gallegos’ coliseum Borja’, in the ‘Olympic’ stadium so that when used they have ease of accessibility for people with disabilities.”

In these sporting events there are also sports that require special conditions and, in this sense, the FDCh was supported by the sports venues of the National University of Chimborazo and the Higher Polytechnic School of Chimborazo. In the case of Unach, no adaptation is required, “what we want is for them to lend us the scenarios and for us to collaborate in the organizational and technical part for the development of skills,” argued Falconí.

For the development of games, scenarios that have good sound are required, since “there are special requirements for each discipline.” The presence of some 800 athletes from 21 provinces of the country is confirmed. Chimborazo will be represented by 45 athletes. “When I joined the FDCh there was not a single federated athlete with disabilities, currently we are going to participate with a group of 45 athletes, in different sports disciplines, and we have athletes who have been training under the guidance of the FDCh coaches. We do not have a forecast at the moment, but we hope that Chimborazo’s presence will be decent, as we have been doing in the National Youth and Minor Games.”
