90 people in Iraq got food poisoning after eating falafel at a local restaurant in Misan province in the south of the country. The authorities started an investigation with those responsible for the restaurant to find out the cause of the poisoning. Falafel dishes caused food poisoning in about 90 people in the Misan province of Iraq, in the second incident of its kind in the province in less than a year. Sources in the Misan police, in southern Iraq, said that “about 90 cases of poisoning were recorded as a result of eating falafel meals from a popular restaurant in the al-Majar al-Kabir district, and the injured came to hospitals to receive treatment.”

According to the same sources, “the condition of most of the injured is good and most of them have been released from hospitals, the authorities have opened an investigation with those responsible for the restaurant to find out the cause of the poisoning.” In Iraq, it was reported that until the end of the investigation, the authorities closed the restaurant. According to the report, after eating falafel, they suffered from vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Regarding the cause of the falafel poisoning, a doctor who spoke anonymously to ‘Sky News’ attributed the poisoning in the initial diagnosis to the presence of infectious viruses and bacteria due to a lack of hygiene.

About a year ago, in the same district, 250 people were also poisoned from a portion of falafel and one person died. Officials in Iraq update that most of the poisoned this time are in good condition unlike last time.
