Thursday afternoon, 2 p.m.: A dozen cyclists with their e-bikes gathered in front of the community center in Gauerbach. The average age was over 80, preparing for a 30-45 kilometer ride. Werner Wedde,94,of Lingen,has participated for eight years.
WWII Experiences –

Born in 1931, wedde remembers WWII. He was slated for military service at 14 but avoided the front lines. He became a painter, then an oil worker, surviving a near-maritime disaster.
Global Travels –
Wedde’s oil career funded extensive travel to Denmark, England, Spain, and beyond. He and his wife visited China, Thailand, Australia, and Russia. He also hiked annually in Austria with his children.
Active Lifestyle –
Wedde remains active, cycling in the Emsland region and managing his own errands by bike. He credits hiking and Rummikub for his continued health. He’ll turn 95 on Feb. 4.
Wedde plans a brunch on his birthday and a larger party Feb.14 with over 60 guests. He intends to continue cycling “as long as he can.”
