The Ministry of Energy stressed that 68% of the households benefiting from the project are headed by women.
Diego Pardow, Minister of Energy, announced the results of the first application process for the electricity subsidy, which will be announced this Saturday, August 31.
The Secretary of State announced that This subsidy will benefit 1,583,115 families belonging to the most vulnerable sectors of the country, which represents 98% of the total number of applicants.
Minister Pardow added that “it is important to note that, if one looks at the percentages of subsidy allocation, it is relatively high at the level of older adults and heads of household. Just as the percentage is relatively high for households located in rural areas, it shows that at least from that perspective there was no digital divide or that digital divide could be overcome through the efforts of municipalities such as La Pintana, which allowed us to support the application.”
Among the relevant data provided by the first application process, It is noted that 50% of the households that will receive the subsidy have at least one elderly person in the family group, and 20% have a person who is a care recipient. Meanwhile, 68% of the beneficiary households are headed by a woman.
Although this first call will allow the benefit to be granted to almost 1.6 million households belonging to the most vulnerable 40% of the Social Household Registry (RSH), the Minister of Energy recalled that this week the processing of the project in Congress began, which triples its scope.
“The idea is to reach 4.7 million households to cover 40% of vulnerable households, quadruple the subsidy for people who are dependent on electricity and increase the amount of the subsidy for vulnerable households belonging to Medium Systems in Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes, which represents nearly 10 million people,” explained Pardow.
