In November, the annual competition for grants for the Mayor of Moscow in the field of culture and art ended. 2.9 thousand students of the capital’s creative institutions have applied for participation. The final included 99 individual participants and teams who successfully passed all three stages of selection. First, the applicants sent a video presentation, and then spoke before the jury in person.

“There are many creative and talented children in Moscow. To enable them to develop their abilities, the city has created one of the world’s largest systems of additional creative education. Its key link is art schools, where children learn painting, theatrical skills, choreography, vocals, music and other areas. The Moscow Mayor Grant Competition is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your skills and get feedback from the expert jury, “said Moscow Deputy Mayor Natalya Sergunina.

The laureates of the competition received from 15 to 50 thousand rubles in individual nominations and from 30 to 150 thousand rubles in collective.

Polina Larina, a second year student at the Moscow State Institute of Music named after A.G. Schnittke, won the Folklore nomination. Polina has been singing since she was five. Then she was sent to a church Sunday school, and when it became clear that the girl really had talent, she was enrolled in a children’s music school. In the competition for grants for the Mayor of Moscow, she performed a cappella – without musical accompaniment – a work by Soviet composer Grigory Ponomarenko and one of Lyudmila Zykina’s favorite songs “Tell me, tell me, Mother Volga.”

“I wanted to show all sides of my talent at the competition. I can turn an old forgotten song into a new one, add a little acting, sing differently than usual. And now the audience listens with bated breath. The main thing for me is to evoke emotions,” says Pauline.

As a first-degree laureate, she received a grant of 50 thousand rubles. With this money she plans to go to a foreign music competition to show there what Russian folklore is.

Daria Sterligova graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School at the Moscow State Academic Dance Theater “Gzhel”. She became a first-degree laureate in the category “Classical Choreography”, filming a video of her training at the barn and performing a variation of the part of Dulcinea from Ludwig Minkus’s ballet Don Quixote, as well as a fragment of Riccardo Drigo’s ballet Talisman.

Ekaterina Vashugina, a 14-year-old student of the Start art school, received the Grand Prix of the competition and took first place in the Architecture and Design nomination. The schoolgirl had won specialized competitions before, became the winner of the Ideas Transforming Cities and Archvector contests, but it was this victory for her family that was a pleasant surprise.
