DIRECT. War in Ukraine: the city of kyiv targeted by a drone attack

by time news

War-weary Ukrainian Jews gathered in prayers and candlelight vigils on Sunday to launch Hanukkah, the “Festival of Lights,” vowing to defy the blackouts caused by persistent Russian bombardment. In Kyiv’s famous Independence Square, also known as Maidan, worshipers huddled together for warmth near what authorities say is the world’s largest menorah (a nine-branched candelabra) Hanukkah in Europe. The Chief Rabbi of Ukraine and Kyiv, Moshe Reuven Azman, told AFP that the story behind the winter festival held “valuable lessons” for Ukraine in its resistance to continued Russian attacks.
