The transport companies (mainly from the port) will receive increased grants to encourage travel between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 every night
Israel Routes Company announced last night that starting in early 2023, it is expanding the “Lila Tov” project to include nighttime transportation of general cargo. This is mainly to encourage the reduction of traffic congestion on the roads. As part of the expansion of the project, the transport companies will receive a grant of up to NIS 300 per truck that will transport general cargo from Israeli ports during the night hours between 3:00 and 6:00.
The “Lila Tov” initiative, which began operating about a decade ago, greatly helps the national effort to reduce congestion and traffic jams on Israel’s roads, as well as to reduce road accidents and air pollution.
3x grants for those who will lead at night:
Until the end of 2022, the Israel Ports Company is granting, as part of the project, a benefit of up to NIS 100 to the transport companies and carriers who transport full containers from Israel’s ports during the evening and night hours. Now, the project will significantly expand to also transport general cargo and triple the amount of the maximum grant to an amount of up to NIS 300 for a truck that will transport general cargo imported from the ports at night.
Data from the Israel Ports Company shows that in 2021, about 60,000 containers were transported at night and the amount of grants paid to the transport companies and carriers was NIS 6 million.
It is about the fact that about 5% of the full containers that arrived in Israel were transported during the night, between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. The Israel Ports Company anticipates that expanding the project and increasing the grants up to 3 times will result in a more significant shift of activity to the night hours.
