Thiruvananthapuram: When Argentina won the title by defeating France in the World Cup final held at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, Beverages Corporation of Kerala was also shocked. Bevco has made huge gains in liquor sales on World Cup day. Alcohol worth Rs 50 crore was sold through Bevco outlets on Sunday, December 18, when the World Cup final took place.
Normally on Sundays, an average of 30 crores is sold on Sundays. According to the figures released recently, the World Cup final day saw an additional sale of 20 crores of alcohol.
Record liquor sales are usually seen in the state on Onam, Christmas and December 31st. This past Onam, a record sale of liquor took place in the state. 117 crore worth of liquor was sold on Uthrada day alone. 624 crore worth of liquor was sold in the seven days leading up to Uthradam. 529 crore last year.
