Among the 108 Vaishnava Divya Desams, Trichy – Srirangam Ranganatha Temple is revered as the first Divya Desam and Bhuloka Vaikundam. Although various festivals are held in this temple every year, the Vaikunda Ekadasi festival held for 20 days in the month of Margazhi is special.
Generally, in all the Perumal temples, on the morning of Vaikunda Ekadasi, the paramapada gate known as the gate of heaven is opened, through which Perumal gets up and blesses the devotees. But in Srirangam the festival will be held as a 20-day festival. The 10 days before Vaikunda Ekadasi are called Pagal Batu and the 10 days after Vaikunda Ekadasi are called Rabatu.
On the occasion of this festival, the entire Ranganatha temple is decorated and illuminated with colorful lights. The temple management is also doing various development works.
