The Municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, through the Municipal Sports Authority, will hold on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, the ceremony of the People of the Year in Sports for 2022. As part of the ceremony that is held every year and will be held in the capacity of Mayor Ron Huldai, sportsmen and women, in addition to sports associations and organizations that contribute to the community, will enter the hall the glory of the city and will receive prizes.

Prominent figures who will be honored are former basketball coach Zvika Sharaf, who led Maccabi Tel Aviv and the Israeli national team to many achievements, and Moshe Sinai, former midfielder of Hapoel Tel Aviv and the Israeli national team. The gymnast Neta Rivkin, who won many medals and is one of the only three gymnasts who participated in three Olympics, will also be among the recipients of the award.

Bronze medalist in the World Marathon Championships Luna Chemtai Salpeter, European marathon runner-up Maro Tefri and Geshao Ayala from the Maccabel Tel Aviv Associations were selected as the outstanding graduates of the year. Blessing Afripa, who won the under-20 world championship in the 200-meter run, received this year’s Sign of Hope. The shooter from the Amit Hasdai warrior house will receive a certificate of recognition as an outstanding Paralympic athlete. Luna Salpeter’s husband and coach, Dan Salpeter will receive the title of outstanding coach together with Igor Balon and Doron Levit from the Association for the Promotion of Fencing.

Roy Noy, the young football player of Maccabi Tel Aviv and the young basketball player of Maccabi Amit Zucker will receive certificates of outstanding youth athletes. Along with them, artistic gymnast Alona Tal Franko, apparatus gymnast Dima Dochenko, cable water skier Yam Lev and Roni Shaham (weightlifting) will also receive the certificate. The outstanding promising athletes selected are artistic gymnasts Diana Svartsov and Romi Pritsky and Liza Dubjevic (cable water skiing).

Other figures who will be honored are Keren Leibovitch, one of the greatest Paralympic swimmers in Israel’s history, and Ron Bolotin, who won 11 medals in Paralympic swimming competitions. The late Chaim Hazan, who starred in the uniform of the Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball team in the 1950s, will receive a certificate of appreciation.
