At the top of the Kaaba, the scroll with the words of the Holy Quran written in Islamic calligraphy is 47 meters long and 95 cm wide. The total weight of the Kiswa is 1,150 kg. 21 machines are used for construction.

Once a year during the Hajj, the old Kiswa is replaced and a new Kiswa is worn in the Kaaba. Earlier, Kiswah to be worn in the Kaaba was brought from countries including Egypt. But it was during the reign of King Abdul Aziz that a special center for Kiswa construction was started in Makkah.

Hajj, Umrah pilgrims etc. can now visit the factory after taking prior permission. Many visitors to the Kiswa factory also get the chance to participate in the weaving of Kiswa with the workers.
