The ruling Taliban government has banned education for all women in Afghanistan’s universities. This is a serious violation of rights imposed on women recently.
In August 2021, the Taliban took over Afghanistan. After they came to power, many basic rights of the people of the country were taken away from various sides. Various restrictions were imposed especially on women. Upon seizing power, the Taliban initially tried to project a moderate image to gain international support. While making many promises to the international community to protect the rights of women and girls, they are doing the opposite and systematically suppressing their rights and freedoms.
Women in Afghanistan cannot work in most fields, require a male guardian for long-distance travel, and are ordered to cover their faces in public. They also put limits on women’s education and barred women from certain jobs. In November, Afghan women were blocked from entering amusement parks in Kabul. The Taliban government announced restrictions on women’s access to public parks. They also banned girls from pursuing secondary school education.
