Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister was recorded asking a homeless man “do you work in a business”. The millionaire prime minister, whose fortune was estimated at about 700 million pounds, was filmed asking the homeless man, named Dean, if he worked in a business, and he replied: “No, I’m homeless.”

The prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party was recorded serving plates of food to members of the city’s homeless population. The homeless man told the Prime Minister he hoped to “get temporary accommodation over the Christmas weekend”.

While the prime minister is serving hot food, Dean asks the prime minister if he intends to get the economy in order. Sunak responded: “That’s exactly what I’m trying to do.” The prime minister then asked him: “Do you have… do you work in a business?”

Dean responded: “No, I’m homeless, I’m homeless but I’m interested in business.” When asked what kind of business, Dean replied: “I like finance, it’s good for the city and when finance does well we’re all good, isn’t that how it is in London?” The Prime Minister responded: “Yes, that’s completely true, I actually worked in finance.”

He then asked Dean if he wanted to go into finance, to which he replied: “Yeah I don’t mind, but I don’t know, I want to get through Christmas first.” When asked what he would do at the weekend, Dean answered: “I have no idea, I hope I can get into some kind of temporary residence so I won’t be on the street.”

The exchange was widely shared on social media, with the prime minister under fire for it. Labor MP Bill Esterson posted: “Rishi Sunak visits a homeless shelter and asks a homeless man if he works in the finance industry.”
