Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the first phase of the corridor rehabilitation of Sheikh Rashid Bin Zayed Road from Dubai-Al Ain Road Intersection to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road has been completed. This is one of the biggest projects undertaken by RTA. The width of the roads has been increased from three lanes to four for a distance of about four kilometers. RTA officials also informed that all bridges leading to Dubai Creek Harbor have been opened.

10,600 vehicles can pass through it every hour. With this, the travel time will be reduced from 20 minutes to seven. RTA Director General and Chairman Matar Mohammed Al Tayer stated that around 600,000 residents in The Lagoons, Dubai Creek Harbour, Meydan Horizons, Ras Al Khor and Nad Al Hamar Complex will benefit from this project.


First step

In the first phase of the project, Ras Al Khor Road was widened to four lanes on both sides. Two lane service roads were also constructed. Two major bridges were also constructed. The first is the 740m three-lane bridge over the Dubai Creek. 7500 vehicles can pass through it in an hour. The second is a 990 meter long bridge with two lanes. 3100 vehicles can travel through it in an hour.

Further projects

A 115-meter bridge is also being constructed to easily reach Dubai-Al Ain from Nad Al Hamar on Ras Al Khor Road. A 368-meter long double-lane tunnel is also being constructed for easy access from Ras Al Khor to Nad Al Hamar. The project also includes the construction of a bridge over the creek to connect Bur Dubai with Al Jaddaf. The new project will serve to connect the Dubai Creek Harbor project and Dubai Festival City.
