“We, members of La France insoumise and Nupes, demand the exclusion of Adrien Quatennens”

by time news

Nou, feminist activists from La France insoumise (LFI) from the cities of Strasbourg, Toulouse, Le Havre (Seine-Maritime), Clermont-Ferrand, Marseille, Amiens, Rennes, La Roche-sur-Yon, Saint-Etienne, Montauban , Paris, Bordeaux, Talence (Gironde), Lyon, Cluny (Saône-et-Loire), Montpellier, Sevran, Le Blanc-Mesnil, Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis), Villeparisis (Seine-et-Marne), Pertuis ( Vaucluse), Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), Poitiers, Périgueux, Lille, Le Mans, Maillezais (Vendée), the departments of Essonne, Loire, Martinique, Réunion and Elsewhere, with the support of feminists from all over the left, let us affirm, through this platform, our contestation of the decisions taken by the national leaders of LFI in recent weeks.

After Adrien Quatennens’ sentence to a four-month suspended prison sentence and 2,000 euros in damages for acts of violence against his spouse, LFI’s decision was awaited by activists.

Silence, consternation, then explosion of anger among a large part of the “rebellious” activists. It was not just a wave of disgust that we felt after the movement’s official declarations, it was a veritable tsunami.

It was thus decided, without transparency or democratic consultation, that Adrien Quatennens could rejoin the group after four months of exclusion and an awareness course on sexist and sexual violence.

Faced with a decisive attack on our feminist values advocated within our program The Future in Common and that of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), we call on activists and activists to insubordination.

Treason

This outrageous decision immediately provoked a protest movement within LFI’s action groups, particularly among young people. Since then, many statements have been issued calling for a radical change within the movement. Criticisms were also expressed by Nupes deputies, not only vis-à-vis the decision taken by the management of LFI, but also following the remarks made by Mr. Quatennens, during his interviews on BFM-TV and in The voice of the North.

This situation gives rise to significant tensions within our movement and in this necessary and precious space for dialogue that is the Nupes. It reveals the limits of a vertical system that privileges the protection of senior executives at the expense of the militant base and programs. We cannot accept this betrayal of the program L’Avenir en commun and that of Nupes: feminism and the fight against sexist and sexual violence against women.
