While France remains threatened with power cuts, companies are taking advantage of the holiday season to step up their energy saving measures. This involves closing offices, or even entire buildings, without necessarily requiring all employees to take leave or RTT. With the agreement of union representatives, companies encourage employees to telecommute.
The service sectors, starting with finance, are at the forefront on the subject. The mutual banking group BPCE (Banque Populaire, Caisse d’Épargne) closed access, between December 17 and January 2, to around forty of its sites, mainly in Île-de-France. This concerns in particular one of the two towers of 13e Parisian arrondissement, which has recently housed its head office. The other tower, which houses the Natixis market halls, remains open during the confectioners’ truce. Employees who are not on vacation are called upon to telecommute.
