Kuwait City: Smoking habit among children is increasing in Kuwait. According to the survey results, 28 percent of the country’s children are smokers. A survey of 13- to 15-year-olds found that 12 percent of girls were daily smokers. 500 million dollars are spent annually by locals and foreigners on smoking.

The survey also stated that the growing use of e-cigarettes in the youth poses a major threat. Smoking contains around 4000 chemicals and more than 50 deadly toxins including carbon monoxide. E-cigarettes can impair brain function and increase smoking addiction.

Meanwhile, health experts have said that additives in the liquid used in e-cigarettes can cause lung damage and are more dangerous than regular cigarettes. Currently, there is a ban on smoking in public places in the country. The authorities had earlier stated that strong legal action will be taken against establishments that do not implement the smoking ban. Several campaign activities are being conducted by the authorities to educate the public about the harmful aspects of smoking.
