An indictment was filed against a 47-year-old shuttle driver after he threw a fire extinguisher at a man he confronted at a gas station. In Be’er Ya’akov two young men who left a Torah lesson and were singing in the street were attacked
Two attacks on religious grounds took place in the last week. The first case happened in Be’er Ya’akov, when two young men who were leaving a synagogue were attacked. The second case happened in Haifa, there against a shuttle driver who cursed a religious man who was asked to move his vehicle and in response the shuttle driver threw a fire extinguisher into the vehicle.
A libel suit was filed against the 47-year-old shuttle driver, a resident of Haifa, today for the offenses of attempted injury, willful damage in a vehicle and simple assault. The indictment states that, last Wednesday, the complainant arrived with his car at the gas station “Menta” in the National Bank of Israel and asked the accused to move his car, since he was blocking the travel lane. The accused ignored the complainant’s request to refuel his car and told the complainant “Smelly doss, fly away” and A number of derogatory statements concerning religious people.
In response, and while sitting in the driver’s seat, the car driver pulled out his cell phone and began taking pictures of the shuttle driver. When he tried to overtake the shuttle driver’s vehicle from the left, the latter took a fire extinguisher that was there and threw it at the driver of the private vehicle. The fire extinguisher damaged the vehicle’s system.
In addition, at the end of last week, a violent incident was reported to the police in Be’er Ya’akov. Police officers who arrived at the scene found a man stabbed in the head, his face cut and the scene full of blood. The police began collecting evidence at the scene, then it became clear that there was a Torah lesson at the scene when two people who came out of it were singing loudly. Then some people came to them and started beating them and hitting them. In addition, one of the attackers stabbed one of the class participants with a glass bottle and cut him in the head.
His friend managed to escape, but the attackers chased him and managed to get him and beat him. The police arrested several suspects of involvement in the act and they were brought to court, where their detention was extended. The judge ruled that there is a reasonable suspicion of the commission of the offenses and that there is grounds for arrest of dangerousness and disruption of investigative procedures.
