Chennai: Three lakh sugar card holders have requested the government to provide Pongal gift package.
In Tamil Nadu, 2.19 crore rice; 3.84 lakh sugar; There are 2.23 crore total ration card holders with 61 thousand non-purchasers.
Ahead of the upcoming Pongal 2023, the government has ordered a gift package containing Rs 1,000 cash, 1 kg of sweet rice and sugar each to rice card holders.
Dissatisfied with this, sugar card holders have requested to provide gift package to them as well.
In this regard, Cooperative Minister Periya Karuppan said, “The Chief Minister is ready to fulfill the wishes of the people. The request of the sugar card holders will be taken to the attention of the Chief Minister, he said.
1 lakh people affected
From last September to the beginning of this month, approval has been given to one lakh beneficiaries who have applied for rice cards. This information has been sent to their mobile phone number by SMS.
Since they have not been issued cards for two months, they have not been able to buy ration items and have not received Pongal gifts. They have also requested the government to give Pongal gifts.
