People’s Justice Center chief Kamal Haasan’s participation in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra could change some political alliances in Tamil Nadu. DMK in 2024 – Will Kamal be included in the Congress alliance?
Kamal Haasan, founder and president of Makkal Neeti Maiyam, participated in Rahul Gandhi’s India Unity Yatra in Delhi. He also participated and spoke at the programs held at the Red Fort in Delhi. His speech received national attention.
Looking at this background, during the 2024 parliamentary elections, there are talks that Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Neeti Maiyam may also be part of the secular progressive alliance with the Congress in Tamil Nadu.
In February 2018, actor Kamal Haasan inaugurated the People’s Justice Center at a function in Madurai. This party contested in 37 seats in the 2019 parliamentary elections and got about 3.78 percent of the votes. The People’s Justice Center contested in 154 constituencies in the 2021 assembly elections and did not win any seats. Overall it got 2.62 percent votes.
In the local body elections held after this, the party’s candidates won some places, but the party could not get any significant victory. After the defeat in the assembly elections, many people started leaving the party. Dr. Mahendran, who was the party’s vice-president, left and joined the DMK.
For a while after this, fatigue in the party and the huge success of the film Vikram cast doubt on whether he would continue in politics. But, from a few months ago, Kamal again started meeting the party members and holding meetings. In this case, he and about 300 members of the party participated in the Bharat Jodo Yatra last Saturday and the party has decided to hold programs or meetings every month until the parliamentary elections, which has brought great excitement to the volunteers.
When the party started, Kamal charted his political path away from both the Dravidian parties. DMK during the election. He also presented severe criticisms. But now, the People’s Justice Center is continuously working with the Congress-DMK. Looks like it’s getting closer to an alliance. In particular, DMK seems to be getting closer.
Kamal has been maintaining a cordial relationship with six people criticizing the governor on his release and wishing Udhayanidhi Stalin on his birthday and his inauguration as a minister.
It was in this situation that Kamal DMK. Talks of him joining the alliance have begun. If Kamal joins the alliance, the party may get one seat in Chennai and one seat in Rajya Sabha. He can be used for the campaign of the alliance at the state level.
For Kamal Haasan, this is a good feature, says Kubendran, a veteran journalist.
“Kamal has just understood the politics of Tamilnadu. As for Rajini, he did the survey three times and the vote percentage did not exceed 8. The third time was slightly higher. So, he decided not to get involved in politics unnecessarily. But Kamal is not like that. He is coming. At this moment, joining that alliance is an opportunity for him. He is naturally anti-BJP and will definitely become an MP if he gets a place in this alliance. For that alliance, Delhi will get an MP who can speak multiple languages. So it’s a win-win for both parties. It will be profitable,” says Kubendran.
But people belonging to People’s Justice Center reject these talks. Arunachalam, party’s organizational general secretary, said, “There are still many days left for the elections. Kamal was invited to participate in the yatra against the repression prevailing in the country. Kamal also participated to emphasize national unity. This issue is completely beyond the alliance.”
The Congress party also said that they do not want to see the participation of Kamal Yatra in such a way. “As far as Bharat Jodo is concerned, it cannot be seen as an alliance attempt. This journey has a purpose beyond everything. The purpose of this journey cannot be narrowed down to a narrow political gain. We have invited a lot of people for the yatra. Even those who have disagreed with the Congress in the past are an important part of this yatra. We see that things are getting worse. So we have invited all those who agree to establish love and equality for this journey. That’s how Kamal participated in this. We are listening to the voices of the people who are on this yatra. If this is happening for political additions and subtractions, then why are others coming? So this is not a yatra for electoral alliances. The participants are also not participating.” Says Jyotimani, Member of Parliament from Karur Constituency and a regular participant in the India Unity Mission.
However, Kamal coming to this alliance is good for both parties, says General Secretary of the Liberation Tigers of India and Member of Parliament. Ravi kumar. “It will be good for both sides. It would be better if all the anti-BJP in Tamil Nadu come together. In that way, Kamal joining this alliance will be a good decision. It will be a good decision for his party as well,” says Ravikumar.
What does the future hold for the People’s Justice Center if the current predictions come true? “Kamal will be 70 years old when the assembly elections are held. It is difficult to say now what the party will be after his tenure as an MP,” says Kubendran. The positions taken by the party in the 2026 assembly polls and the seats it wins may give some clues about the party’s future.
DMK during the last general election. Alliance, ADMK Alliance, Makkal Neeti Maiyam, Naam Tamilar Katsi and AAMUK contested separately. But this time, there could be a big change in the alliance accounts. Even recently, Chief Minister M.K. When Stalin mentioned, DMK – There doesn’t seem to be a problem with the Congress alliance as of now.
But, A.D.M.K. BJP in alliance Whether it continues remains to be seen. A.M.M.K. It is not clear whether it is going to compete separately like in the last system. We Tamil party can compete alone like before.
