A fisherman who fell from his ship into the sea off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil managed to survive after hanging onto a marine broadcast buoy • “I was very excited when they rescued me, the fishermen who found me also cried from excitement”

A fisherman who was missing in Brazil has been located more than 50 hours after falling from the boat he was working on off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

The fisherman, 43 years old, was rescued by a local fishing boat, two days after he fell from the ship he was working on in the middle of the sea.

The search for him began after the ship he was working on was found empty by fishermen. He fell from his boat a few hours after he went out alone to Lev Yam on December 24th. “I let the currents sweep me away in order not to lose energy,” he told the media. “The hardest thing was giving up the chance to return to my boat, realizing that I would probably drown if I tried.”

The fisherman took off his pants and shirt when he realized that they were weighing him down and would make it difficult for him to continue drifting.

He was saved when he boarded a large broadcast buoy. “The water was rough and the sea was cold. I was very afraid that I would die of cold before any help arrived, so I climbed on the float with the aim of staying as dry as possible.”

48 hours later one of the fishermen noticed him on the buoy.

He suffered from dehydration and an extremely low body temperature. “I was very excited when they rescued me, the fishermen who found me also cried from excitement,” said the fisherman.
