Kochi: Prominent Popular Front leaders have been arrested in a widespread raid by the National Security Agency. It is reported that three persons, including state leader Zulfi, were arrested from Vitura and brought to Kochi. NIA arrested Zulfi, his brother Sudhir and Salim, a native of Karamana.

The NIA is continuing its phase-by-step search of PFI centers in the state, which have been banned for alleged terror links. Meanwhile, the news that the leaders drowned hours before the raid in Pathanam Thitta is because the information about the raid was leaked from the police is being evaluated as complacency on the part of the Kerala Police.

Beyond the assassinations of RSS leaders Alappuzha Ranjith and Palakkad Srinivasan, the PFI was preparing elaborate assassination and communal riot plans. The NIA had also informed that Islamic fundamentalists are active through several sleeping cells in the state. The new raids are based on the information obtained from the interrogation of the arrested leaders from the state months ago. The raids will continue, the NIA said.
