Ligue 1: a collector’s jersey for Lorient inspired by tattoos of players and supporters

by time news

This Thursday’s Lorient-Montpellier match in Ligue 1 will be unique. If this match of the 16th day is only a confrontation between the 7th (Lorient) and the 15th (Montpellier), it will have a strong symbolic aspect, in particular for the Lorient supporters. Indeed, for this one and only time, the Bretons will wear a collector’s jersey, which pays tribute to the club’s supporters.

Umbro, the Breton club’s equipment supplier, has chosen Lorient for a new episode of its campaign entitled “How deep is your love” after the German clubs of Werder Bremen and English of Brentford. The idea being to celebrate all football players such as supporters or players. In a press release, Umbro explains that this approach tries to “explore the personal stories and moments behind the tattoos of certain fans around the world”.

Le Fée, Diarra and Silva tattoos

On a white jersey, the designers imagined bringing together all the Breton universe, the sea, the fish, the boats and of course the Gwenn ha du, the flag of Brittany. To create this collector’s tunic, 80 Merlus Ultra supporters were surveyed. The latter spoke of their love for the club, sometimes going so far as to have messages or drawings tattooed on their skin.

That’s all we find on this collector’s jersey. The Merlus Ultra logo, messages in Breton, and around fifteen tattoos, those of supporters and even of three Lorient players, Enzo Le Fée, Stéphane Diarra and Igor Silva. For the fourth time in a row, the match will be sold out in Lorient.
