Melbourne: The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tennis series of the year, will be held in Melbourne from January 13 to 29. The tournament organizers announced the prize money for this series yesterday. The prize money has increased by 3.4 percent over last year. The total prize money of the series is around Rs 426.27 crore in Indian value.
The men’s and women’s singles champions will receive a prize money of Rs 16.56 crore each. Qualifiers will get Rs 14.49 lakh. Meanwhile, those who exit the main draw in the first round will get around Rs 59 lakh. Over the past 20 years, the Australian Open has seen a 321 percent increase in prize money.
