CHENNAI: Chennai airport customs officials seized gold worth Rs 1.53 crore smuggled in the plane.

The Vistara flight from Mumbai, Maharashtra reached Chennai yesterday morning. Customs officials got information that the three passengers were smuggling gold.

Subsequently, the three suspects were caught and the officers searched. Nine packages containing gold paste were found in their possession.

They were valued at 2.86 kg gold worth Rs 1.39 crore. Customs officials who seized the gold, arrested the three passengers and interrogated them.

From Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, the ‘AirAsia’ flight arrived in Chennai yesterday.

The female passenger had hidden gold in her underwear. 298 grams of gold worth Rs 14.49 lakh was seized from him.
