Myanmar’s Democratic Party leader, Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, has been sentenced to seven more years in prison by a military court, raising her total sentence to 33 years.

The National Democratic Party led by Aung San Suu Kyi (age 77) won a landslide victory in the 2020 elections in Myanmar. However, the country’s army dissolved his rule on February 1 last year, citing irregularities in the election.

Also, the military rulers have arrested him and other political leaders and registered various cases against them. The accused in those cases are being punished severely.

As part of that, four people, including a former MP in Aung San Suu Kyi’s regime, were sentenced to death for encouraging armed struggle, and that sentence was carried out last July. Foreign countries strongly condemned this.

33 years imprisonment

In this situation, Aung San Suu Kyi had already been sentenced to 26 years in prison for various charges such as possession of wireless telecommunication devices without permission and violation of corona laws. In this case, the Myanmar Military Court, which heard 5 more cases yesterday, has now sentenced another 7 years in prison, causing a sensation. With this, Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison

Already, Aung San Suu Kyi, who was struggling to establish democracy in Myanmar, was imprisoned by the military rulers for many years. It is worth recalling that Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for that struggle.
