Revelation of the first part of the season, Aviron Bayonnais won this Saturday against Rugby Club Toulonnais (23-18), on the occasion of the 14th day of the Top 14. Led by 13 points just before half- time, the Basques, through Maqala, regained hope at the best moment (39th). A fantastic try, starting from a relaunch of the Argentinian rear Bogado from 22 meters.
Carried by a Jean-Dauger on fire, and helped by the indiscipline of Toulon (15 penalties and 2 yellow cards), Bayonne was able to follow up by taking the advantage as soon as the recovery with the hooker Bosch on an offering from Rouet (44th). Toulon has long hoped to seek success thanks to the double from the Var center Paia’aua (9th, 50th).
Too many balloons lost by the RCT
But the RCT proved to be too ineffective with many balls lost in touches and in the rucks (9 turnovers in favor of the Bayonnais). To win, Bayonne was able to count on a solid defense and on the boot of Camille Lopez (13 points) which made the difference for the locals.
Bayonne signs a seventh success at home this season and remains undefeated at Jean-Dauger. With this success, the Bayonnais temporarily climb to 3rd place in the standings, the RCT remains 8th.
