The Minister of Communications, Dr. Shlomo Karai, met last night with the chairmen of the ultra-Orthodox parties, Minister Aryeh Deri, Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf and MK Moshe Gafni, and informed them about the cancellation of the Kuma Khashara reform – the cell phone reform planned by the outgoing Minister of Communications, Yoez Handel, which was intended Allow movement within the kosher lines – already in the coming days.

It was also agreed that the final evacuation of the 2nd and 3rd generation frequencies in favor of an efficient deployment of the 4th and 5th generation frequencies at the end of 2025 will be carried out as planned. Minister Karai informed the ministers that in order to allow the market to prepare better in terms of adapted 4th generation devices, he will extend by half a year the possibility of purchasing new 2nd and 3rd generation lines. Mobility between companies will be possible until the end of 2025.

The issue of the rabbinical committee for communications matters – which is currently managed with full autonomy – has not yet been decided, and in the coming month a decision will be made whether the monopoly will remain in the hands of the existing committee, or whether a new, additional committee will be opened, which will be managed by rabbis from the Lithuanian public.

Communications Minister Shlomo Karai said yesterday, “I am happy for the privilege that has fallen to me to correct the distortion and restore the honor of the ultra-Orthodox public that was trampled on for not doing injustice. When you act with understanding and a good spirit and do not try to blatantly interfere with the freedom of the individual and the way of life of an entire public, it is possible to reach agreements quickly and efficiently for the benefit of all parties.”

Minister of the Interior and Health Aryeh Deri said that he “congratulates Minister of Communications Shlomo Karai for canceling the cell phone reform, the whole purpose of which is to impose an entire lifestyle on over a million people. Minister Karai is a true democrat who, unlike his predecessor in office, considers the rights of citizens.”

Housing Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf said, “I would like to congratulate my friend Minister Shlomo Karai for canceling the offensive cell phone reform. I am blessed that you got to sanctify the name of heaven and make Israel’s greats happy! The real estate reform was a blatant interference by a detached minister, in a public way of life, who chose to protect himself and His children from inappropriate content. In a rare way, Israel’s elders went up to the minister and begged him not to harm the Torah-observant public, but he closed his ears. Throughout the election campaign, we promised to cancel the reform and, God’s blessing, we succeeded.”

The Chairman of the Finance Committee, MK Moshe Gafni, said: “I congratulate Minister of Communications Shlomo Karai for his decision to cancel the cell phone reform that was intended to harm the ultra-orthodox public and interfere with their lifestyle. This is one of the issues we committed to cancel with the establishment of the new government and I am happy about it.”
