The Maduraik High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary and the Tamil Nadu Health Department Secretary and the Principal of the Trichy Government Hospital to respond to the case of a woman who lost her baby and womb due to the negligence of the Manaparai Government Hospital doctor, seeking compensation.

A woman named Nadia from Pudukottai district had filed a petition in the High Court Maduraiklai. It says “I am married and living in Pudukottai district. I have been receiving treatment at the Primary Health Center continuously since the day I became pregnant. I was admitted to the Manaparai Government General Hospital on 28.12.2021 for the delivery of the child.

Doctor Mohanasundari, who is available at Manaparai Government Hospital, told me that there is no chance of a healthy delivery and if she goes to her husband’s hospital for treatment, there is a possibility of a healthy delivery. When we refused, he scolded us severely. Meanwhile that night I went into labor and gave birth to a baby girl. Dr. Mohanasundari’s negligence during delivery caused my baby’s head injury. My uterus was also affected.

My baby was born unconscious and was referred to Trichy Government Hospital for further treatment. However, my child died without treatment. Also they sent me to Trichy Government Hospital due to continuous abdominal pain.

The doctors who examined me there said, ‘If I want to survive, I will have to remove my uterus. It has been affected during delivery’, they said. This resulted in my hysterectomy. I have lost my baby and my uterus due to the negligence of Dr. Mohanasundari and the assistant at Manpara Government General Hospital. So appropriate action should be taken against them.

Justice Krishnakumar, Vijayakumar bench heard this petition and ordered the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary and Trichy Government Hospital Principal to respond to the case and adjourned the hearing for 4 weeks.
