Miki Gabrielov releases a new single, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the national poet, Haim Nachman Bialik. The song “The summer is dying” was written by Bialik, and Gabrielov composed it.

Gabrielov, one of the greatest and most beloved composers and singers in Israel, publishes his album “From gold and stain”, which is all songs he composed to the words of Bialik. On the occasion of the song’s release, the composer tells Srougim about his writing: “The song is a transition between a state of summer where everything blooms, and a winter where a dark day appears that descends upon us, literally.”

“Leave me very little space, that’s why the beehive is falling apart”

The meeting between Bialik’s wonderful text and Gabrielov’s delicate melody is touching, and evokes nostalgia for the good old Israeli music. The singer and composer talks about the new album that will be released in the coming days, and is entirely dedicated to the only national poet of his kind who left behind a magnificent legacy, which, according to Gabrielov, is disappearing.

“The album is released in honor of the language that Bialik left us, which has disappeared from Israeli culture, and it’s a shame. More people need to hear, read and understand the songs that Bialik wrote, and I was lucky through music – to open up to beautiful worlds.”

Words:

Summer died out of gold and stain
And from the crimson
of the fall of the gardens and of Arab thickets
which are rooted in blood.

And the orchard is emptied. Only single travelers
and individual walks
They will keep their staring eyes after the last flight
in the hassidic caravans.

Summer is dying…

and when
Take heart soon and a close day
There will be a knock on the window in silence
You checked your shoes, you ironed your mantel
Go ahead and make potatoes

Summer is dying
