Karachi: Pakistan get off to a good start in the second Test against New Zealand. Pakistan, who started batting after dismissing the visitors for 449, have scored 154 runs for the loss of three wickets when stumped on the second day. Imam-ul-Haq (74) and Saud Shakeel (13) are at the crease. Matt Henty and Ajaz Patel picked up a wicket each. Earlier, Devon Conway’s century led the Kiwis to a good score. Tom Latham (71) was brilliant. Tom Blundell (51), tail-end Matt Henty (68) and Ajaz Patel (35) made crucial contributions. Abrar Ahmed took four wickets. Agha Salman has three wickets.

In reply, Pakistan got off to a poor start. With 56 runs on the scoreboard, two wickets were lost. Abdullah Shefiq (19) and Shan Masood (20) returned. Captain Babar Azam to the crease in the fourth. Started well but could not capitalize. The player who scored 24 runs was run out. The Kiwis started batting on the second day with a score of 309 for the loss of six wickets.

But Ish Sodhi (11) returned first, unable to add a single run to the previous day’s score. Soon after, Blundell also returned to Pavlia. Tim Southick (10) also failed to shine. With this, New Zealand was at 345 for nine. It seemed that 350 would not be crossed. Then a valuable partnership was born in the last wicket. Ajas provided support while Hanty played in attack. Both of them added 104 runs. Abrar broke the alliance by expelling Ajaz. Ajas scored 35 runs off 78 balls with the help of four boundaries. Henty remained unbeaten with two sixes and eight fours off 81 balls.

New Zealand got off to a good start earlier. Conway and Latham put on 134 runs for the opening wicket. Naseem Shah dismissed Tom Latham (71 off 100 balls) in ODI style to break the partnership. But former captain Kane Williamson and Devon Conway, who reached one down, took the Kiwis past 200. With the duo putting on a century partnership for the second wicket, it was thought that New Zealand would go for a big score like in the first Test.

But when Conway (122) who completed the century was caught by Agha Salman in the hands of wicketkeeper Sarfraz, Naseem Shah took Williamson (36) in the hands of Sarfraz in the next over. The Kiwis collapsed after Darryl Mitchell (3), Henty Nicholls (26), Agha Salman and Bracewell (0) were dropped by Abrar. The Kiwis fell from 234-1 to 279-6.
