Colombo: Sri Lanka’s former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa has started an attempt to regain his US citizenship.
Mr Gothapaya fled the country in July last year after mass protests broke out in Sri Lanka against his rule. He is trying to get his US citizenship back after no country has granted him political asylum at the time.
In this case, local government elections will be held in Sri Lanka. The filing of nominations will begin on the 18th.
