CAF: the personal data of more than 10,000 beneficiaries of Gironde revealed online

by time news

Bad surprise for some recipients of CAF Gironde. As France Bleu revealed on Thursday, the personal data of 10,204 people registered with the Family Allowance Fund were disclosed on the Internet in March 2021, as part of internal training supported by an external service provider.

“A file has been put online on the partner site for training planned internally for very few employees”, confirms the CAF with the Parisian. “The service provider left the file on the site after the training, so it was accessible,” we continue. It has since been removed.

No names, but addresses

The CAF informed the Parisian that “the file was largely anonymized: there was no first and last name, no telephone number, no e-mail, no beneficiary number”. A lot of data was however available, as discovered by France Bleu. Addresses, dates of birth, household income and details of benefits paid were thus visible. That is, in all, more than 180 data per person.

According to the local radio network, this data, which was uploaded after training in the first quarter of 2021, remained available for a year and a half. Questioned by France Bleu, the external service provider responsible for the training explained that he did not know that the data was real.
