Son of drug trafficker ‘El Chapo’ arrested, Aeromexico plane hit by gunfire

Coup by the Mexican authorities. Ovidio Guzman, son of jailed US drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, was arrested on Thursday, Defense Secretary Luis Cresencio Sandoval announced.

The notorious drug trafficker’s son was captured in the northwestern town of Culiacan accused of leading the “Los Menores faction, linked to the Sinaloa Cartel”, Sandoval told reporters.

Violence is everywhere.

At the same time, violence broke out in Culiacan. Aeromexico company confirmed that one of its planes taking off for Mexico City was hit by gunfire, adding that there were no injuries. A video shared on Twitter shows the passengers squatting in the central aisle of the aircraft.

Ovidio Guzman was arrested in 2019 but was later released, authorities fearing an outbreak of violence.
