The new members of the Republican Party will soon be sworn in to the US House of Representatives, but the swearing in of one congressman is expected to be particularly unusual. Robert Garcia will be sworn in on the old Superman comic book.

According to the custom, politicians swear on the Bible, the Koran or scriptures that symbolize their faith. But Robert Garcia, a mayor from California and a fresh member of Congress, announced that he plans to swear on a Superman comic book.

Garcia is an immigrant from Peru and a homosexual who had to keep his identity a secret and only after years was exposed and came out. The politician explained the surprising step and told the media that the Superman comic book has a special and historical meaning for him, because when he immigrated from Peru to the USA together with his mother, he spoke only Spanish and did not know a word of the language spoken in the USA.

He managed to learn English from the comic books he bought in the street shops. Garcia went on to share that he connected with Superman’s story more than any other story. Because of being a young immigrant with a sense of justice and like Superman he also kept his identity (his sexual identity) a secret.

The Aliyah Yeshiva edition booklet is hard to come by and is on loan from the US Library of Congress. The old booklet from the first Superman edition released in 1939 is considered a particularly valuable collector’s item. Similar units have been sold over the years for amounts approaching five million.

In addition to the comic book, the new congressman will swear on the photo of his parents who died not long ago from Corona and on his American citizenship certificate, which according to him receiving it was one of the most significant moments in his life.

It will be mentioned that Garcia along with all the new house members were supposed to take the oath of allegiance a few days ago, but the Republican candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives is unable to obtain the necessary majority in order to accept the position and the exciting swearing in continues to be postponed.
