La Poste wants to experiment with the abolition of the daily round from March

by time news

La Poste is trying a new experiment. From March, the abolition of daily rounds of postmen will be implemented in 68 French regions, learned Franceinfo from concordant sources and in particular trade unions. This experiment is part of a general reorganization of mail delivery rounds.

According to Franceinfo, only urgent mail, parcels, press distribution or registered mail will be delivered daily. The postmen will change rounds every day and not the same every day as at present. “Users will no longer see their postmen daily,” lamented trade unionist Ludovic Jeanneau, South-PTT delegate, on the radio. The unions believe that this reorganization plans to eventually reduce the number of postmen.

But this is false, assures Yves Xémard, deputy general manager of the services-mail-parcel branch within La Poste, confirming this unprecedented test: “In 2008 we delivered more than 18 billion letters, we no longer deliver than 7 billion in 2022. The purpose of the experiments is to adapt as best we can to these developments in the field”.

The experimental areas are Canet-en-Roussillon (Pyrénées-Orientales), Orthez, around Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Armentières, Carvin, Saint-Omer, Amiens, in Hauts-de-France, or again the Sauve-Créon sector, near Bordeaux (Gironde), details the radio. Meetings with employees should take place in the coming days to refine this reorganization.
