India vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20: India star player Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the T20 series against Sri Lanka after injuring his left knee while fielding in the first match of the series in Mumbai. Samson, who returned to the team after missing the ODI series against Bangladesh last month, was dismissed for 5 runs on Tuesday. He has been replaced by Jitesh Sharma, who has made several key changes for Punjab Kings in the 2022 Indian Premier League season. “Sampson injured his left knee while trying to field during the first T20,” the BCCI said on Wednesday. This confirmed his exit from the series.

On Thursday, Samson revealed this on his official Instagram page. “Everything is fine,” he remarked. Team India captain Hardik Pandya posted a heart emoji to this and wished senior opener Shikhar Dhawan Samson a speedy recovery from his injury. Samson has so far played 11 ODIs and 17 T20Is for India; However, he did not feature in many series. Samson made his T20 debut in 2015, but since 2020 he has only received consecutive opportunities in two matches against New Zealand and three matches against Australia.
In 2022, Samson played in all three T20Is of the series against Sri Lanka in February, but was not named in the five-match series against South Africa in June, which marked the Indian team’s return to cricket action after the Indian Premier League. In England the following month, Samson was named in the squad for the first T20 but was left out of the second and third place. Kerala native Samson was also left out of the T20 World Cup squad, while Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant were India’s first and second wicket keepers respectively.
