Women’s French Cup: PSG wins in Orleans and advances to the round of 16

by time news

This first round of the Coupe de France was not a walk in the park for PSG. Like the men, winners at the end of the match in Châteauroux on Friday evening (3-1), the women’s section was slow this Sunday to overcome Orleans by the same score (3-1) in the round of 16. Defending champions, the Parisiennes took the measure of the second division team on the return from the half-time break thanks to the decisive entries of three players: Kadidiatou Diani, Grace Geyoro and Sakina Karchaoui.

Because despite the chances of Lieke Martens, including a goal disallowed for offside, or a post found by Sandy Baltimore, the first period of PSG is not likely to reassure Gérard Prêcheur and his staff for this first outing in 2023, after a few days off. It is therefore up to Karchaoui, on a cross aimed at Amanda Ilestedt but deflected by an Orléanaise (48th), to unblock the situation.

Three minutes later, Karcahoui puts it back on his left side and finds Diani for the 2-0 (51st). A moment of culpable release from the Parisiennes allowed Orléans to close the gap (57′). But it was ultimately the local stage, Grace Geyoro (81st), who scored the third goal, synonymous with victory and qualification for the knockout stages of the Coupe de France.
